Truity Credit Union Makes $30,000 Donation To Lawrence Schools Foundation

Truity Credit Union presented a check at this year's Community Education Breakfast

Continuing its commitment to local public education, Truity Credit Union presented the Lawrence Schools Foundation with a check for $30,000 recently. Truity is a Master Partner in the Foundation’s Lawrence Education Achievement Partner (LEAP) program.

Truity’s Education Foundation Fund supports various Lawrence Public Schools districtwide needs. When banking customers join the Truity Credit Union, they pay an annual fee to the charitable OAK Foundation, which is then donated to support local educational needs.

“Truity Credit Union is proud to support public schools in Lawrence,” said Tim Mock, Business Development Officer at Truity Credit Union. “We understand the important role our educators and students play in our community. By giving to the Lawrence Schools Foundation it allows us to help fund programs in need. This year, we are pleased to use some of the funds to provide more than 650 AVID program binders that will help facilitate making sure our children are college and career ready.”

The Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program promotes student growth under the guiding principle: hold students accountable to high standards, provide social and academic support and students will rise to the challenge.

"The donation from Truity Credit Union will support AVID students enrolled in the AVID elective by providing them with notebooks to support their work in staying organized and prepared for their rigorous coursework," said Leah Wisdom, Assistant Director of Student Services at Lawrence Public Schools.

Truity’s donation also goes towards sponsorships of the Community Education Breakfast and Follies and an education fund housed at the Foundation.

“Truity’s generous donation to the Foundation gives us the opportunity to expand our reach and provide resources that enhance and enrich the educational experiences to more students and educators within the Lawrence Public schools,” said Dena Johnston, Executive Director of the Lawrence Schools Foundation."

The Lawrence Schools Foundation is a charitable organization that supports education enrichment in the Lawrence Public Schools.  In addition to promoting effective early childhood education, the Foundation provides grants for innovative teaching and learning opportunities, encourages student achievement through scholarships and special grants, and recognizes outstanding educators.
