Laurie Ziegler Named New York's Barbara Hodgson Dream To Achieve Award Recipient

Laurie Ziegler received the Dream To Achieve Award New York Elementary title teacher Laurie Ziegler was selected as the 10th annual Barbara Hodgson Dream To Achieve Award recipient Tuesday afternoon. The award, named after former New York kindergarten teacher Barbara Hodgson, is presented to a New York teacher who is recognized by his or her peers to possess great skill in the art of teaching and demonstrates the virtues the New York staff strives to instill in their students.

Ziegler currently serves as a fourth and fifth-grade title teacher at New York, where she has worked for the past seven years. She has been in the district since 2002 working as a substitute teacher, a para educator at Prairie Park Elementary, and as a second and third grade teacher at Kennedy Elementary before going to New York.

The UMKC elementary education graduate and her husband Marlyn have two children, Meagan and Josh.

The award is administered by the Lawrence Schools Foundation and was started in 2008.

The Lawrence Schools Foundation is a 501(c) (3) charitable organization that raises money to enrich the education of the students in the Lawrence Public Schools. The Foundation seeks to promote and enhance effective early childhood education, innovative teaching and learning opportunities, recognition of outstanding educators and encouragement of student achievement.
