Grant Recipients and Staff Award Winners Recognized at Lawrence Public Schools Board Meeting
Recipients of Lawrence Schools Foundation grant and staff awards in 2017-18 were recognized at the Lawrence Public Schools Board Meeting Monday night. A number of different grants are available for teachers and principals each year, including Innovative Teaching Grants, Staff Development Grants and MusicWorks! Grants. This past year the Foundation awarded more than $38,000 in grants to district teachers.

2018 Community Education Breakfast Raises More Than $113,000
Lawrence Public Schools students and teachers will benefit greatly thanks to the success of the 17th annual Lawrence Schools Foundation Community Education Breakfast held Friday, Sept. 7. Thanks to some wonderful additional donations, including $50,000 from Truity Credit Union, the event raised $113,646.

Sunset Hill's Duncan Receives $10,000 Bobs Award
Michele Duncan, a Sunset Hill Elementary School teacher, was presented the 2018 Special Award for Excellence in Teaching by the Lawrence Schools Foundation at an all-school assembly Thursday afternoon. The award, commonly known as the Bobs Award, includes a $10,000 check for the recipient.

Nominations are being accepted for the most prestigious teaching award provided through the Lawrence Schools Foundation. Community members, parents, students, alumni and fellow teachers are encouraged to submit a nomination of a Lawrence Public Schools teacher for the annual $10,000 Bobs Award.

Foundation Special Funds: SEGER Fund
The SEGER Fund, which stands for Special Educational Grants for Emergency Resources, was set up through private donors in 2016. The fund provides $1,000 to both Free State High School and Lawrence High School to allow social workers and counselors to assist with students’ emergency needs.

Free State Teacher Scott Ireland Will Represent Foundation at Transformations Gala
After the first six Transformations shows featured women contestants, this is the first year men will compete. Ireland selected the Lawrence Schools Foundation as his charity and hopes to claim the $10,000 prize for the Foundation.

Joyce Bell, the librarian at Cordley Elementary school, was awarded a 2017 Hanzlik Hands On Academy Teacher Grant Friday. Bell’s project title – Bridge Building – will benefit students in kindergarten through fifth grade at the school.

Continuing its commitment to local public education, Truity Credit Union presented the Lawrence Schools Foundation with a check for $30,000 recently. Truity is a Master Partner in the Foundation’s Lawrence Education Achievement Partner (LEAP) program.

Summer Grant Presentations Completed
This summer the Lawrence Schools Foundation awarded School Assistance Grants, MusicWorks! Grants and Carl Knox Development Grants. This month we recognized the recipients by visiting their schools and presenting those staff members with their checks and principals with their yard signs.
