Bio
I am excited and honored to serve our students and our community as a member of the Lawrence school board. Although our district faces many challenges, we have much to celebrate. I will work hard to carry on the tradition of excellence in our schools.
I grew up in western Kansas and earned my bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Spanish from KU, and then my law degree from the University of Michigan Law School. I gained invaluable experience working with public schools, first, as an attorney in private practice, and then as an education specialist at the Georgia Department of Education. My husband, Jason, and I returned to Lawrence over a decade ago to raise our family. We have two boys and a girl.
Since joining the USD 497 Board of Education in 2011, I have served on numerous district committees, community committees, and site councils, including the board’s policy, facilities, and boundary committees, the City of Lawrence Public Incentive Review Committee, and as a liaison to the Lawrence Schools Foundation Board of Trustees, the Voter Education Coalition, and site councils including Deerfield, Quail Run, Langston Hughes, West, and Free State. I have also served in leadership with the Kansas Association of School Boards, including as president of the association for the 2019–2020 school year.
Thank you for your interest in Lawrence Public Schools. I encourage you to share your ideas and concerns with me.
