Crossing Guards
The City of Lawrence continues to recruit crossing guards.Lawrence Public Schools encourages interested individuals to consider giving less than two hours a day to assist the children of our community in getting to-and-from school safely. Learn more about the city's crossing guard program.
Safe Routes to School
We also encourage school families to consider walking or biking to school together if possible. In addition to supporting children’s safety, caring adults leading a group of children in walking or biking to school together provide social support, model kindness and cooperation, and increase physical activity.
We are fortunate in our community to see neighbors helping neighbors with carpools and walking school buses.
Be Active Safe Routes provides safety tips, brochures, and maps of safe routes to each of our schools. This website also includes our K-8 Be Active Safe Routes curriculum with lessons, such as bicycle safety and active transportation.
Please demonstrate (and frequently remind) your children of safety precautions they should use when walking or biking to school.
When driving near schools and in-and-around school zones, please slow down, watch for children walking and biking to school, and use extra caution.
