Let's Lift Lawrence

Community in Action

This Fall, Douglas County food partners are mobilizing in response to the anticipated loss of SNAP payments, which is expected to leave local families without approximately $850,000 in food assistance during the coming month.

More than 1,100 students in Lawrence Public Schools live in households that rely on SNAP benefits.

To help meet this urgent community need, Lawrence Public Schools is joining with our local partners in launching Let's Lift Lawrence: Community in Action to support emergency food resources for families across our community.

All school sites will be collecting needed food items throughout the month of November.

Adopt a School Pantry Program

As part of their continued commitment to care for our community, our friends at the Lawrence Schools Foundation are helping us lift Lawrence by introducing the "Adopt A School Pantry" initiative.

Through this program, local businesses and organizations can partner with the Lawrence Schools Foundation to help collect food donations that will be distributed directly to school pantries across our district. These pantries play a vital role in ensuring that students and families have access to nutritious food during this challenging time.

By adopting a school pantry, your team can:

  • Collect non-perishable food items and essentials,
  • Promote a culture of giving among your staff, and
  • Make a direct, meaningful impact on local families in need.

If your business or organization is interested in participating or would like more details, please email: djohnsto@usd497.org or contact the Foundation directly at 785-330-1941.

Donate to the Food Pantry Fund

Additionally, a Douglas County Partner Pantry Fund has been established through the Douglas County Community Foundation (DCCF). This fund will be used by Just Food, leveraging their purchasing power to buy food for every pantry in our county.
