Central Garden
Liberty Memorial Middle School
Since expanding the garden at Central in 2011, over 600 students and volunteers have participated in the garden at Liberty Memorial Central Middle School, fondly named “Central Garden” by students. Evidence of the garden can be found in many pockets of LMCMS from science classes starting plants to be grown in the garden, produce being served in the cafeteria, and photos of students gardening displayed around the building. In the 2014 gardening season, approximately 150 students and community members spent over 2,200 hours working in the garden at Central. The garden is maintained during the school year by the garden club which meets after school twice a week. Over the summer, there is a free summer program which operates 4 mornings a week that maintains the garden, visits local farms, nurseries, and other the other school gardens and sells produce at the Cottin’s Farmers’ Market. Community members can support Central Garden by volunteering in the garden Tuesday & Thursday afternoons during the school year, 9-11a Monday - Thursday during the summer, or purchasing produce from the Cottin’s Farmers’ Market during the summer.
