Enroll Your Student

The enrollment process must be completed each year for all USD 497 students.

Lawrence Public Schools has two enrollment paths depending on your student's history with our district. Read the descriptions below for New Student Enrollment and Annual Student Enrollment to find which form applies to your student.

Please note: There are separate forms to complete for those looking to enroll/apply for classes at Choice Campus at Centennial or for GED, Adult Basic Education (ABE), and English Language Acquisition (ELA) classes at Lawrence Adult Education Center. For enrollment information about specific locations/programs, please read the "Programs & Grade Level Information" section at the bottom of this page.

Enrollment Center Summer Hours: Monday – Thursday, 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

New Student Enrollment

For students not currently enrolled in our district, or enrolling in preschool, kindergarten, diploma completion, or special services. See the list of criteria below.

Complete New Student Enrollment if your student is...

  • New to the district — never attended a USD 497 school
  • Not currently enrolled — transferred to another district or private school, or did not finish the most recent school year in USD 497, and are now returning to our district
  • Applying for preschool — new or returning applicants
  • Enrolling in kindergarten — includes students moving from USD 497 preschool (preschool enrollment does not carry over)
  • Enrolling for activities only — such as sports or specials (this enrollment type must be completed each year)
  • Enrolling in IEP or support services only (this enrollment type must be completed each year)
  • Enrolling in the Lawrence Diploma Completion Program (LDCP) — earning a high school diploma

Annual Student Enrollment

For students returning to our district for grades 1–12. Directions about Annual Student Enrollment will be emailed to the student's primary contact. Read our Annual Enrollment FAQ to learn more.  Open July 8 – July 31

Complete Annual Student Enrollment if your student:

  • Returning to Lawrence Public Schools in grades 1–12 for the 2026–27 school year — attended USD 497 in grades K–11 through May 2026
  • Moved to a different USD 497 school attendance area
  • Has submitted a transfer request to a USD 497 school outside of their boundary school (Annual Enrollment is a district-wide form and is not school-specific)

Important:

  • The Annual Enrollment form cannot be used to change the primary parent/guardian a student lives with
  • To update a student's primary parent/guardian and residential address, contact the Enrollment Center at 785-330-1921
  • Annual Enrollment is required each year to review and sign required notices and update contact information as needed.
  • This is separate from middle and high school course enrollment (see details on course enrollment below).
