Hi! I am Tori McCoy and I am so excited to be your child’s 2nd grade teacher this year! This will be my 21st year teaching, third year in the district, and my first year at Langston Hughes. I grew up in Lawrence, and went to Deerfield , West Junior High, and Lawrence High. My undergraduate degree is from the University of Arizona. My elementary education Post-bac is from Ottawa University, and I have my Masters in Special Education from Northern Arizona University as well. I have taught in Arizona, Montana, and Kansas.
I went back to school to pursue teaching after having our oldest son. I really enjoyed teaching him new things, and watching him learn. I truly love teaching more each year, and I am always reading books and taking classes to add more tools to my teaching tool box. I enjoy teaching all of the subjects in 2nd grade, but especially love open-ended problem solving in math, and Stem challenges where the children can drive their own learning, and then explain their thinking to me. I also love to get children hooked on reading and all of the wonderful books that they have to choose from to read.
When I am not at school I enjoy spending time with our family - my husband, 3 sons (Connor, Carson and Cooper), and our daughter Alina who is a junior at Freestate. Our 3 little dogs, Snoopy, Bear-Bear, and Willow, also keep us on our toes!
