My name is Jennifer Walters and I am happy to be teaching here at Deerfield.  I was born in Biloxi Mississippi, but I was raised from age 2 on in Lawrence, KS.  I graduated from Lawrence High school and went on to complete my undergraduate and graduate degrees at the University of Kansas.  Upon graduation, I began a career teaching special education in Baldwin and then in Perry Lecompton, before leaving teaching for a few years to stay at home with my daughter Katy.  When Katy started Kindergarten, I decided to return to teaching.  As luck would have it, Mrs. Appleman was in need of a 4^th grade teacher.  I have been teaching in the Lawrence School District since 2005.  Since I grew up in Lawrence, I have had the child or grandchild someone I know in each and every class I have taught, so some of you may already know me.  If you know me, you know that when I am not teaching you will find me running, biking, hiking, kayaking or reading.
