Mrs. Christy Hunt
Hi! My name is Christy Hunt and I am so excited to be your child's physical education (PE) teacher this year! I graduated from the University of Kansas with a K-12 degree in physical education, adaptive physical education and health and have been teaching PE in the Lawrence School district for 27 years. This will be my 17th year teaching PE at Broken Arrow Elementary and my 2nd year at Pinckney Elementary. My passion for health and fitness, the families whom I have the opportunity of getting to know, and the amazing kids I have the privilege of teaching, have made this a dream job for me. I truly believe in the importance of what I do and being part of two incredible school families makes my job even more spectacular.
I have been married for 24 years to a wonderful, patient and very kind man. We are a family with three adult children (Tyler, Aubrey and Alden), and have 2 dogs (Dalya and Berkley) and 2 cats (Jessa and Oozie). My other interests include drawing, writing, playing the ukulele, singing, lifting weights and biking. We love living in Lawrence because of the active, family friendly, artistic, and culturally diverse community it is.
I believe it is essential that our kids learn the benefits of daily physical activity and proper nutrition. My goal as a PE teacher is for every child who passes through my door to develop a love for physical fitness, sports, and recreational activities, to know and understand the importance of cooperation and acceptance through being part of a team, and to leave elementary school with a positive self-image.
This school year is starting off very differently then we could have ever imagined, but I am very confident that our students can still grow in their academics as well as their physical health. I am so excited to get to see all of my students faces, even if it is remotely, and I will do everything in my power to get to know every one of my students and provide them with a positive physical education experience.
If you have any questions please contact me through my district email at crhunt@usd497.org .
