    Sally Hoffsommer-Brecheisen. (she, her, hers)

I am the new Student Support Facilitator for Billy Mills Middle School.  USD 497 is committed to shifting discipline away from traditional principal assigned consequences and move toward supporting students to better manage their own behavior.  I will be working with staff on classroom management, with students on social and emotional skills, and with both to implement school-wide Restorative Practices.

Restorative Practices are designed to get at the root of discord and reconcile differences.  We begin this by building a sense of community through holding regular circles in the classroom to form relationships, celebrate successes, and assist in learning.  When conflicts arise the structure is already in place to use Circles to enable all parties to discuss the situation and implement actions that will restore harmony in our school community.  When our community has been harmed Restorative Practices strives to not just return to the status quo but to make our school an even better place for students and staff.

This is my 33rd year in education.  I have taught American Government at Baldwin High School, Special Education to grades 7-12 in the Shawnee Mission School District, and Alternative Education to grades 6-12 in the Kansas City, MO Hickman Mills School District.  I have been teaching and implementing Restorative Practices to the HMC-1 District for the last five years.

Because my last name is cumbersome I use Sally H-B.  You can recognize me in the halls because I always have my medical alert service dog, Chica, with me.
