I am so excited to be teaching Biology at Lawrence High School!
Prior to teaching at LHS, I was at Liberty Memorial Central Middle School where I taught 6th grade science and was the building AVID Coordinator. Before that, LMCMS was Central Junior High School and I taught 9th grade Biology and Advanced Biology there.
I currently hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology with an emphasis in Botany and a minor in Chemistry and a Masters of Education in Educational Leadership. I have had a lot of experience in the science field. I have been a garden coordinator for a non-profit organization in Denver, Colorado where I managed an organic farm and over thirty school gardens. At the same time I worked for a second non-profit organization called "Embracing Horses" in Denver, Colorado where I took care of over 25 horses and helped with the inner-city horse back riding program. For several years, I have volunteered with veterinarians in Colorado as well as Kansas. In addition, I previously sat on the Instutute of Animal Care and Use Committee at the University of Kansas. It is a joy to be able to put my love of plants and animals together through teaching Biology.
On a more personal note, I live in Lawrence and am within walking distance of LHS. I am married and my husband works at the Spencer Museum of Art. I have two children, one is at Cordley Elementary and the other is at Lawrence High School. Both have many activities they are involved in. I also have two step sons, one lives in Lawrence and the other lives in Detroit, Michigan. I have way too many pets - Great Dane named Walleye, Corgi named Dak, gecko named Juno, bearded dragon named Noodle, hamster named Mo and many fish.
