Julie Alley teaches K-2 General Music at Deerfield Elementary. She holds degrees in Music Education from MidAmerica Nazarene University and The University of Kansas. She has taught Choral Music, Drama, Reading Comprehension, General Music, Voice Lessons and Piano Lessons, ages 0-adult. She was recognized as Outstanding Education Student and Outstanding Vocalist by MNU and Excellence in Education in USD 204. She served as a GTA at KU in Choral Conducting, Vocal Pedagogy, and Student Teaching. She earned Levels 1 and 2 certificates in “World Music Drumming.” Her thesis: “Character Education in Choral Music Settings (Observations of the Kansas City Boys Choir)” passed with honors. Ms. Alley received grants for innovative applications in Music in USD 204 and 497. She has created and refined curricula for Choral Music, Drama and Preschool Music.
Ms. Alley is currently interested in "The Highly Sensitive Child" research and its implications for affirming, expressive and growth-oriented experiences in beginning music. She enjoys many styles of music, especially jazz and folk, and has sung throughout America's Midwest, Southwest and Great Britain. She believes all people are music-makers and desires to cultivate a fun, safe and challenging learning environment. Besides singing and teaching - Ms. Alley enjoys reading, hiking, playing Dutch Blitz, dark chocolate and especially hanging with precious family and friends.
