I am so excited to have the opportunity to serve as Assistant Principal and Athletic/Activities Director at Liberty Memorial Central Middle School for the 2019-2020 academic year. I am excited to work with the staff, students, families, and community members to ensure LMCMS continues to grow academically and be a place that all students feel they belong and can thrive.
I have previously served as an instructional specialist for the Shawnee Mission Unified School District and teacher/coach for Piper Unified School District. Before I began my career in education I worked in emergency communications, child and family protection services, and providing low-income housing. I received my bachelor's degree in public administration from Washburn University, a masters degree in curriculum and instruction from the University of Kansas and a masters degree in educational leadership from Emporia State University. I am currently pursuing a doctoral degree from the University of Illinois in educational equity, diversity, and inclusion.
I was drawn to Lawrence Public Schools in large part because of how the district has engaged in equity work in every school. I was drawn specifically to LMCMS because I believe the diversity of the student body has untapped potential and strong engagement from the community due to its unique location in the city is an obvious strength. The building itself is beautiful; who would not want to walk through those doors every day to work?
Please know that I believe in the abilities of all of our students to achieve at high levels. Each of our students is unique and my approach to each student and family will be equally unique to serve their individual needs. If you have a comment, concern or suggestion please do not hesitate to reach out via telephone or email. Be sure to follow our school Twitter account @LMCentralMiddle to keep up with the many accomplishments of our community.
I look forward to an amazing year,
Timothy P. Leffert
