My name is Deena Wilson, and I am currently a school social worker for Lawrence Public Schools. I have been fortunate to work in elementary schools since 2003, initially as a prevention specialist and then as a school social worker since 2006. I love working in preschool and elementary schools and am thrilled to begin to integrate play therapy into my school practice.
The school social worker's role includes the following:
Provide social work services to support social, emotional and behavioral goals on IEPs
Participate in special education evaluations
Act as a liaison between the school and community-based services
Support families with problem-solving and referrals to community-based agencies
Supervise graduate level social work students interested in school social work
Provide behavioral support for parents and teachers
If you have any questions or are interested in discussing any of the above areas, please contact me by email (dmwilson@usd497.org) or text (913-585-4616).
