Mrs. Rachel Naughtin
Mrs. Naughtin believes that teaching and performing go hand in hand. Since moving to Lawrence in 2013, Rachel has become an active performer and educator in the area. She is thrilled to be teaching music at Pinckney and Woodlawn Elementary Schools. Mrs. Naughtin also teaches musical theatre classes at the Lawrence Arts Center, and maintains a private voice studio out of her home. An active performer, Rachel is a member of Vox Nova Chamber Choir based in Columbia, MO, and has also performed with Te Deum Chamber Choir, Lawrence Opera Theatre, Kansas City Opera Institute and the Kansas City Chorale. In 2013, Rachel completed a Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance at the University of Missouri. There she performed the role of Despina in Mozart’s Così fan tutte among other roles, and served as a voice teaching assistant. In 2011 she earned a Bachelor of Music degree with majors in Vocal Performance and Choral/General Music Education from Lawrence University Conservatory of Music in Appleton, WI. Rachel also completed her student teaching in Appleton where she first cultivated her passion for teaching elementary general music by helping students achieve their fullest potential in the music classroom. Favorite Lawrence University performance credits include The Old Maid and the Thief (Miss Pinkerton), Into the Woods (Cinderella), and scenes from Le nozze di Figaro (Susanna). In addition to her studies at Lawrence Rachel was a member of the College Light Opera Company (Falmouth, MA) in Summer 2010 where she performed the role of Sarah Brown in Guys and Dolls as well as other various ensemble and comprimario roles. In summer 2009, Rachel attended the Bel Canto Institute in Florence, Italy. An active recitalist, Rachel has performed repertoire spanning five-centuries, and welcomes the opportunity to explore new music. Mrs. Naughtin absolutely loves sharing her passion for music with her enthusiastic, curious, young musicians in Lawrence Public Schools.
