Degrees and Certifications:
This will be my 12th year of teaching. I taught at Seaman High School in Topeka for 4 years and Derby High School for 6 years. I received undergraduate degrees in both Journalism and English Language Arts from the University of Kansas and a graduate degree in Curriculum and Instruction from KU (Rock Chalk!).
For the 2018-2019 school year, I will be teaching Advanced English 9, Mythology/Folklore/Fantasy, and Introduction to College Writing. I’ll also be the assistant tennis coach for both boys and girls.
I’m driven by a desire to learn, to know more, and to figure out how/why things work--I do everything possible to get students fired-up too. Students will find my class enjoyable, challenging, relatable, and applicable.
Outside of school, I have an eclectic group of interests that always seem to sneak their way into classroom discussions or lessons. A few of these include: adventure racing, orienteering, mountain biking, kayaking, fishing, hunting, target shooting, archery, gardening, home renovation, and tending to my farm and farm animals—if it involves the outdoors, I’m bound to love it.
