    Good morning LHS!

    Class Ring Delivery will be during lunch Friday, January 18.

    Today and tomorrow are the very last days to turn in your release forms for the LHS Freestate Dodgeball Tournament!! Turn them in at lunch or to Mr. Jones today or Friday in able to participate in this awesome event!

    Thank you to all who nominated staff for meeting ROAR expectations!  This week’s winners have been drawn and prizes will be delivered this afternoon.  We will announce these deserving winners tomorrow morning! Keep those nominations coming – the cards and box are in the main office!

The tournament will be Sunday, January 20, will begin at noon, and will be located in the Lawrence High Gyms. All students are encouraged to participate and form teams consisting of 6 to 8 people. The entry fee is $5 per person, and all proceeds will go to benefit the Lawrence Schools Foundation. Pick up a sign up form at the Stuco lunch table!

    Attention Juniors and Seniors:  We will be hosting another ACT prep session for students taking the ACT.  The fee is $25.00.  The preparation includes a full practice test which can be scored, and a test course taught by Jason Lichte of Multiple Choice Test Prep.  The class will be held at 2:45 on Wednesday, February 6th.  To reserve a spot student should bring payment to Mrs. Bradfield in Student Services ASAP.  Checks should be made payable to LHS.  Spots are limited and registration will be closed when the course is full.   Thank you!

    There will be a brief informational meeting for all boys interested in trying out for golf in the spring right after school today in Coach Rampy’s office located in the main gym.

    The LHS Food Pantry will no longer be staffed after school.  Instead, we ask that anyone wanting food please come to student services and ask for a staff member to assist you.

    Attention Seniors!!!  Applications and description packets for over 75 different Local Scholarships will be available on the LHS website on Friday, January 18th .   At that time, you can to go to the LHS website, click on the Student Services tab at the top of the page then click the local scholarship link at the left- hand side of the page.   Transcripts are to accompany all applications and should be requested through Parchment.  All completed applications are due to Mrs. Bradfield in Student Services by 3:30 on Monday, February 18th.  No late applications will be accepted.  Thank you!

    Attention Juniors, and Seniors:  We are offering the ASVAB Career Exploration Program exam on Wednesday, January 30th at 8:00a.m. in the Blackbox Theatre.  The ASVAB is a test that can help students find out more about future career potential and college readiness.  It is also used by military branches for possible career placement.  Interested students need to sign up in Student Services with Mrs. Bradfield.

    The Total Equality Alliance will meet today after school in Room 401 in the Annex. We will be discussing our field trip to Topeka on January 30th to participate in Equality Day at the Capitol building.     Good morning LHS!

    Due to the chances of inclement weather this evening the start times for boys and girls basketball have changed. Tonight at 4:30pm Varsity Girls will play in the main gym and JV Boys will play in the west gym. At 6:00pm Varsity boys will play in the main gym and JV girls will play in the west gym.

    Congratulations to our ROAR winners, Nevaeh Cole and Jaylynn Hicks! Please come to the main office to receive your prize!

    Thanks to everyone who nominated a colleague for a ROAR prize.  It’s exciting to see so many people noticing all the good things that happen at LHS every day!  Yesterday’s drawing was part of a 24-hour challenge, which meant that not only did the nominee get a prize but the nominator received a prize.  Congratulations go out to David Provost who was nominated by Christine Coursen, Carla Westheffer by Jennifer Stock, and Taylor Jones by Abby Hoffman.  Staff – please continue to recognize your colleagues, as drawings will continue every Thursday.

    Congratulations to Francis Williams for placing 4th in the East Central FFA District extemporaneous public speaking Leadership Development Event held yesterday at Spring Hill High School. She also placed 14th in Prepared Public Speaking.

    Congratulations to Joel Rose for placing 7th in the Extemporaneous speaking Leadership Development Event as well! Reminder: The food pantry will be open right after school on Mondays and Thursdays and is located in the East Gym entrance area.  Please contact a member of the Mental Health Team or go to Student Services if you have questions.

    The locker rooms in the main gym will be closed tonight for basketball games that evening. Please secure and remove all belongings by 3:20pm. There will be no access for LHS students or staff until after the games are over.

Candy and gum contain a chemical that is extremely toxic to dogs. Chocolate and other foods are also very harmful. Thank you, Lions for picking up your trash and any trash when you see it get left behind. Our four-legged friends work hard every day to provide important emotional support, and it’s our duty to keep them safe. Thank you!

    Due to many staff ROAR nominations, an additional drawing was held yesterday afternoon.  Congratulations go out to Michelle McAnderson, Colleen Sullivan, Deena Amont, Becky Torneden-Johnson, and Mark Preut for exceeding the school-wide expectations of Respect, Our Best Effort, Academic Achievement, and Responsibility.

    Teachers – You are now in the midst of a 24-hour challenge that ends at 8:00 am tomorrow.  If your nominee is chosen, both you and the nominee receive a prize.  Fill out your card today!

    Good morning LHS!

    Can we talk will be meeting in the library classroom this Wednesday during late arrival 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. new members are always welcome. join us for great conversation and of course breakfast.

    Lions love our therapy and service dogs & we have a responsibility to keep them safe! Please remember that food and trash left in the hallways can be harmful to our furry friends.     Good morning LHS!

    Students – As you prepare for finals, remember that Wednesday’s schedule is different than usual.  Wednesday begins with your Period 1 final from 8:05 – 9:15 am, there is no late start, be here at 8:05!!!  The rest of your classes will meet on Wednesday, and school is dismissed at 3:10 pm instead of 2:30 pm.

    On Thursday, you will have finals in Periods 2, 3, and 4, with school dismissing at 11:45 am.  No lunch will be served.

    On Friday, you will have finals in Periods 5, 6, and 7, with school dismissing at 11:45 am.  No lunch will be served.

    A reminder! No passes will be sent for students to leave class during finals on Thursday and Friday. Make sure to make arrangements with your parents to leave in between class periods.  Also, we will not be reading announcements on the mornings Wed.-Friday because of finals.  Thank you!

    Are you graduating at semester? First, congratulations.  Second, please stop by the library and let us know when you are turning in your computer and textbooks.  This will save us lots of paperwork.  

    There will be no Total Equality Alliance meeting this week. Enjoy the break, and see you next semester!

    The Athletic Office is pleased to announce that Morgan Jones will hold an athletic signing right after school on Wednesday in the cafeteria. Please join Morgan and her family in celebrating her signing.

    There will be a girl’s soccer player informational meeting tomorrow night at 7:00pm in the Cafeteria. Come meet the new assistant coaches and learn about off-season conditioning.

    There will be a BRIEF meeting at 12:05 in the weight room on Thursday the 20th for all boys interested in trying out for baseball.

    Lawrence High School would like to congratulate Evann Serratte for being chosen the Hy-Vee 41 Action News Athlete of the Week.  Come out and support Evan and be a part of the Award Presentation today after school at 3:10 on the track.  Congratulations Evann!

    Attention students...  schedules for second semester are being finalized.  All requests for schedule changes must be made before finals begin this week.  There will be no changes made after winter break!  Thank you!

    There will be a girls’ softball player meeting today after school at 3:45pm in room #130 for all girls trying out for softball in the spring.

    It’s the 5th Annual Holiday Giveaway! Students were nominated by staff and randomly selected for prizes. All winners will receive a ticket with all the information they need to claim their prize. And today’s winners are:
