    Good morning LHS!

    The FYI club will be hosting a Cultural Heritage Panel training for students interested in becoming Cultural Heritage Panel presenters here at LHS and at our local middle schools. There are 2 options for training, students need to pick one:

    Option 1: attend both sessions on Tuesday Nov. 27th and Tuesday Nov. 29th from 5pm until 8pm both nights, LHS cafeteria. Dinner will be provided.

    Option 2: attend the full session on Saturday Dec. 8th from 9am until 3:00pm, LHS cafeteria. Lunch will be provided.

    Please stop by student services with Ms. Thomas or room 108-B with Dr. Trevino-Maack to sign up or for questions!

    Pack the House 2018 Monday, November 19th beginning at 5:45pm in the LHS Main Gym. It’s a little bit sports showcase, a little bit variety show, but a whole lotta fun! Pack the House will introduce our winter sports teams and feature student skits. There will be opportunities to win PRIZES for those in attendance! There is no admission charge but the Spirit Squads and STUCO will be collecting non-perishable food items or monetary donations at the door. Proceeds will go to local charities. See you there!

    All wrestlers will report to Mr. Moos’s room 123 immediately after school today, please bring you Mac Book charged and ready to use.

    Attention all people that care about the world-  There will be a Geography Club meeting today after school as we start building our festival of trees tree-  If anyone has extra plastic water bottles please bring them to Mr. Platt’s room-  The meeting will be held in room number 107-

    Kansas will be offering the ACT and ACT WorkKeys FREE to juniors and seniors on February 20th, 2019. Juniors – talk to your US History teachers to take a survey if you were absent last week. Seniors who have not yet taken either test but wish to, see Ms. Buek in student services to get signed up!

    Are you interested in traveling to Greece this summer?  If you are currently a 9th or 10th grader there is an opportunity for you!  The Sister Cities of Lawrence Student Exchange Program is sponsoring a trip to Lawrence’s sister city, Iniades Greece.  They are accepting applications now through November 26th.  If you are interested swing by Ms. Murray’s room, room 108, by November 19th to pick up an information packet and application. Application will be due November 26th.

    Take advantage of after school tutoring M-Thurs. in the library classroom. Certified teachers will be available to help you for one hour after dismissal.

    ALL freshman football players should stop by room 231 as soon as possible and see Coach Farley.

    Fashion club will meet after school today in room 134! We will begin designing t-shirt’s and as always, there will be snacks! Join us!

    The Total Equality Alliance will have a club meeting after school on Wednesday in Room 401. See you there!

    Good morning LHS!

    Young Feminists Club will be going to pick up items for the Willow Drive Tuesday, November 13 from 3:30-6:30PM. Please pick up permission slip forms from Hoffman, room 206. For questions, email Ms. Hoffman at ahoffman@usd497.org.

    Please join Writers Club every Monday for the month of November to celebrate National Novel Writing Month, where we will be exploring different genres of writing, the creative process, and how writing impacts the life of the writer. Our second guest of the month is Danny Caine who is the author of two poetry books. He grew up in Cleveland but moved to Lawrence to get an MFA in poetry from the University of Kansas. He's now the owner of the Raven Book Store. His poetic obsessions include chain restaurants, Midwestern pride, the Jewish holiday of Passover, and the formation of identity in a brand-driven consumerist era. We are excited to hear his sage advice about the creative process and how writing is influenced by his experiences. Come to Hoffman's room, room 206, from 3:15-4:15PM to ask questions, write, and create.

    The LHS staff has responded to the 26-hour challenge and here are the results! During this challenge, prizes go to both the person who was nominated for going above and beyond, but also to the person who nominated.  Prizes include gift cards, candy, snacks, and other goodies.  Thanks to all who make today and every day a great day to be a Lion!!h

    Link Crew invites the freshman class to a Fall Fun Night this Friday, November 9, from 3:30-6:30 p.m.  Come for an evening of laughter and games, which will start in the LHS cafeteria. We will have games in the gym, a craft room in room 130, and Guitar Hero, Just Dance, karaoke, and Mario Cart in the cafeteria.  It is free for all freshmen – just be sure to have your rides here by 6:30 to pick you up.  See the invitation on your locker for specifics.     Would you like to go to Germany in the summer for four weeks, experience German culture, see the country and make new friends?  The student exchange program with our Sister City in Eutin (pronounced: oy-teen), Germany, is open to all LHS students.     From Young Democrats Club: young Dems will be phonebanking after school at the Douglas county democratic headquarters next to Pisanos, so come on out if you want to help. But above all, if you are 18 make sure you get out and vote today. Your voice matters.

    The Lawrence High School Music Department’s annual Gala concert is this today, November 6th. It will feature over 600 LHS music students in Band, Choir, Jazz Band, and Orchestra.  Shows are at 6:30 PM and 8:00 PM.  Tickets are $7 and can be purchased in the finance office or at the door.  See you there!

    A special congratulations goes out to the LHS Unified Basketball team.  They had their final tournament of the season on Saturday.  30 LHS students participated this year!  And. . .  they brought home 2 Gold medals!!! Congratulations!

    Good morning LHS!

    Bienvenidos! This Thursday Spanish Club will be celebrating Día de los Muertos and we want you to join us. Come to room 314 right after school and join in this great tradition with us. There will be foods and drinks provided. Ciao!

    Scholars Bowl is up and running having already competed in several bowls.  We would love to add you to the team.  We especially need freshmen or Sophomores.  You definitely don't have to be a genius to be on the team...just love pizza, being with friends, and answering questions about all subject areas.  If interested, stop by either room 216 or room 232 and talk to Mr. Ellis or Mrs. Soule.  

    Françamis, (FRAWNCE AH MEE) the French Club will have it's Spooky Rendez-vous meeting today after school in the French room.  Do you like Canadian zombies and spooky treats?  Come on by!

    Everyone is invited to watch the Nightmare Before Christmas and start planning for the festival of trees in room 134 for Art club today.

    Calling all 9th graders – Link Crew is hosting a Fall Fun Night and wants YOU to attend! The festivities will occur on Friday, November 9, and start at 3:30 p.m.  We will meet in the LHS Cafeteria.  This event is free for all 9th graders – but it ends at 6:30 p.m.  Questions? Talk to your orientation Link Leader or a member of the Link class.

    Writers Club: Writers Club will be hosting a National Novel Writing Month series of write-ins for the month of November. Have a collection of essays, a novel, poems, or a script that you are working on? Come on Mondays after school in room 206 to set some writing goals, meet fellow writers, and collaborate in a creative space. The Kick-Off Party will be after school today in room 206. Refreshments provided. Write on, lions!

    Attention staff and students: the LHS blood drive is November 15th! Sign-ups will soon be available at the stuco table at lunch. LHS has long been the community’s biggest donor of blood, so please partake in this community oriented tradition!

    This year’s school-wide musical will be SPAMALOT and have performances in January. Auditions will be held on Wednesday, October 31st in the auditorium.  Information and audition time slots are posted on the Theater callboard across from room 101. Audition forms can be found outside the choir room.  If you have any questions see Mr. Frye or Ms. Johnson.

    New National Honor Society applicants:  Please remember that your application materials are due today and should be turned in to Ms. Stussie in Student Services.

    Take advantage of after school tutoring M-Thurs. in the library classroom. Certified teachers will be available to help you for one hour after dismissal.
