    Congratulations to the Varsity Scholars Bowl team of Lisa Yang, Abby Lingwall, Tony Racy, Ike Phillips, Julia Rossillon, and Trevor Arellano for finishing 1st place at last night’s tournament.  They came back to beat an undefeated team with a tiebreaker question in the championship round!  Way to go Lions!

    Your LHS Pom squad is holding Winter Tryouts TONIGHT!! Please meet Coaches in the rotunda at 6:00pm. Make sure you have turned in ALL sports paperwork to Ms. Cates prior to tryouts! Hope to see you all there!

    This is the LAST week to bring items to donate to the LHS Gear Giveaway.  All donated items will be handed out to LHS students after school next Monday, November 25.  Please search your closets for your extra LHS gear - or for the LHS clothing than no longer fits.  As long as it is in new or gently used condition, we will take it.  Thanks for your generosity!

    The AVID Senior class have put together a service learning project that will benefit our LHS Food Pantry. Students, beg your first hour teachers to get involved and get behind this project. Not only will it help complete one of three service projects, it will also help those who may be in need or want. The Senior project will start today, Nov. 1 and end December 1st. The class that had the most pounds of canned and non-perishable food items wins a breakfast pizza party. Boxes will be given out on Thursday during 7th hour. So, get ready, get set, collect.

    Good morning LHS:

    Did you know that One and 10 teenagers are distracted while driving? 5 seconds is the average time to take your eyes off the road to text, it's also enough time to cover the length of a football field when driving at 55 mph. Come by the SAFE table during lunch today to get more information about the program, free stuff & a chance to win a pizza party for pledging to always wear your seatbelt. 

    For all girls interested in Lady Lions soccer: there is a player and parent informational meeting for the spring 2020 season tonight at 6 pm in the cafeteria.

    The Environmental Club will host student activists from the KU Sunrise Movement.  Come learn about the Green New Deal and the Climate Strike Movement and find out how you can get involved. Join us in room 326 after school on Wednesday.

    Yoga and Mindfulness will meet today from 3:15 to 3:45 in Library Classroom 1. There will be easy and quick exercises to help students and staff reduce stress, tension and increase focus. Mats and other equipment are provided.

    Congratulations to Joey Bash, Clara Bode, Asha Hanson and Judith Hogan for their AbiliTech proposal being selected as a finalist for Burns & McDonnell's Battle of the Brains. Please help the team out by voting for their proposal at botbkc.com/vote/ You can vote once per day from now until November 22. 

    The Intertribal Club is having an Indian Taco Sale on Saturday, November 16, 2019 at the Haskell Catholic Center on 23rd Street. The sale starts at 11am and will go until sold out, but get there quick because they go fast. 

    All boys interested in trying out for basketball need to sign up on the tryout list outside of Coach Lane's room #102 before the end of the school day today. If you still have paperwork to complete it must be submitted to Mrs. Cates in the athletic office by the end of the day Friday. You will need to get a release form when you submit your paperwork.

    Good morning LHS:

    Attention ALL students and staff - we have noticed alot of traffic coming through the office in the morning after the bell.  For your safety and the staff's safety, please remember to have your student badge on you at all times in order to enter the building.  We do not want any badges in people’s hands that are not supposed to have them.  If you have misplaced or lost your badge, you need to go see Tracy Urish in student services so the old badge can be replaced.

    There will be two athletic signings today after school. Please join Karly Johnson at 2:30pm in the cafeteria and Mason Quartlebaum at 3:30pm in the Library to celebrate. Karly is signing with Emporia State University to play softball, and Mason is signing with Kennesaw State University to play basketball. Congratulations seniors!

    Graffiti Magazine's open mic poetry reading meets after school today in Library Classroom 1.  Bring a poem you've written, or a personal favorite, or just come and listen.

    There will be a Total Equality Alliance meeting today after school in Room 343. We'll be talking about upcoming opportunities for club members, including the LGBTQIA+ Youth Leadership Collective where youth will receive a stipend for participation. Ms. Buck will have applications on hand. See you today after school!

    On Saturday, Lawrence High School won two awards at the Kansas High School 24 Hour Film Fest. We were the only school to win multiple awards. Please congratulate Walter Walker, Emma Shockey, Joe Braun, Charlie Nigro, Finn Strong, and Jude Bernard on winning third place for their short film, "Left Over Spaghetti Time."  Also, please congratulate Mia Robinson, Saul Reza, Kindred Curry, Carter Knox, Carter Lynch and Sophie Brackersturm on winning 2nd place for their short film, "Dual Offenders."     Good morning LHS:

     

    CONGRATULATIONS to the varsity Scholar’s Team of Zack Razak, Eva Ruiz-Chavez, Trevor Arellano, Jake Rayome, Colin Marett and Leo Meyer for finishing 4th overall at Washburn Rural.  WAY TO GO LIONS!!

     

    Winter Athletes, please do not wait until Monday’s form deadline to turn in your paperwork.  Turn it in by tomorrow to avoid missing practice or standing in line to get a release signed.

     

    Do you love badminton as much as Coach Morgison and Ms. Huntsinger do?  If so, enter the Dead Week Badminton singles tournament on Monday and the doubles tournament on Wednesday of next week.  Check the brightly colored flyers in the hallway for more details.

     

    What happens when you mix witches, accusations, Lorde, Taylor Swift, the Crucible and a high school in the south? Find out in 'John Proctor is the Villain'. The next play presented by LHS Theatre has auditions THIS Wednesday and Thursday after school. Visit the theatre website to sign up for auditions or come talk to Mr. Fisher for more details. 

     

    Winter sports forms are due 4 days from today. If you are trying out for basketball or bowling you may not try out if your forms are incomplete or missing. If you are going out for boys swimming & diving or wrestling you may not practice until your required forms are all complete. Check the forms list on the bulletin board in the Finance hallway.     Freshmen: You don't want to miss the Fall Fun Night on Thursday, November 14 immediately after school.  Link Crew is planning a fun afternoon of games, crafts, activities in the main gym, and a classic movie - "The Princess Bride."  The festivities will begin at 3:15 p.m. and last until 5:30. Come eat some snacks, drink hot chocolate, and have some fun with your classmates and the Link Leaders.

    Can We Talk will be meeting this Wednesday in the library classroom at 8AM. New members are always welcome. Bring a friend. See you soon.

Got dresses you want to donate?  Bring your gently used or new dress by Friday to Student Services. Need volunteer hours?     The AVID Senior class have put together a service learning project that will benefit our LHS Food Pantry. Students, beg your first hour teachers to get involved and get behind this project. Not only will it help complete one of three service projects, it will also help those who may be in need or want. The Senior project will start today, Nov. 1 and end December 1st. The class that had the most pounds of canned and non-perishable food items wins a breakfast pizza party.  Boxes will be given out on Thursday during 7th hour. So, get ready, get set, collect.
