Degrees and Certifications:

Mrs. Lisa Strauss

Hi there. My name is Mrs. Strauss. I am a 3rd grade teacher at New York Elementary school. I have worked for Lawrence Public Schools for 11 years. This is my third year working at New York Elementary. Before, I was an instructional support assistant for math at Sunflower Elementary and the 2/3 grade math/reading teacher at New York. Three years ago I decided to go back to college. I graduated May 2016 with my Masters degree in Education from the University of Saint Mary in Leavenworth, KS. I love math. I love the challenge that math brings to children every day. Being able to see the joy and excitement when my students make accomplishments in math is why I am here every day.

Besides being a teacher, I am also a wife, mother, a sport's fan, an avid reader, a gardener, and a sun lover. My husband currently works for the Lawrence Public Schools Foundation. He is responsible for raising money to help all the teachers in our school district. I have two sons. My oldest son is 23 years old and play Amercian football in Cologne, Germany.  My youngest son is 20 years old and a junior at Lindenwood University in St. Charles, MO. He is on their lacrosse team.

I love being a part of New York Elementary School. The residents have such a wonderful reputation and committment to this neighborhood and school. I look forward to working with all my students and their families this school year.
