Mrs. Catherine Meihaus

Originally from St.Louis MO, I am now a Jayhawk and this will be my 10th year teaching visual art. I recieved my Undergraduate and Masters degree in Visual Art Education through KU doing research on creativity in public education with studios in painting. As an artist myself, I love to explore painting and pottery when I can get my hands on a wheel.

In the Billy Mills art studio, my goal is to inspire young artists to work through the creative process in as many different media as we can. Our curriculum is centered around the National Visual Art Standards as well as the 8 Studio Habits of Mind (Engage and Persist, Observe, Develop Craft, Connect with Community, Stretch and Explore, Envision, Reflect, and Express).  I run a collaborative studio which means that students are responsible for the studio as much as I am including cleaning, organizing and helping each other. We will be using Google Classroom to upload images of our process and work to create a digital portfolio to go along with our physical portfolio that we take home at the end of the semester (quarter for 6th grade).

Keep an eye out for our instagram to see the everyday work our artists are doing in the studio.
