    Ray Casey teaches Automotive Technology. Fixing cars has always been his passion. He went to Pittsburgh State and received his degree in Applied Sciences with a major in Automotive Technology.  He also holds a Master Technician Certification through the ASE organization. After college, he worked at a Toyota dealership before going on to work in his father's independent shop. He trained new technicians at both shops and found that he enjoys teaching.

    Wendy Haas

    Wendy Haas: whaas@usd497.org

    Wendy Haas teaches Principles of Biomedical Science and Forensic Science at LCCC. She loves working in the lab with her students and watching them develop into future scientists. She earned a B.A. in Biology and M.S. Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Kansas. Her husband Jeff teaches and coaches at Free State High School and her son Will is in the 5th grate at Sunset Hill Elementary. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, being outdoors, reading, and cooking. 



    Charlie Lauts

    Charlie teaches Design/Build at the Lawrence College and Career Center. Her students create client based projects from the brainstorming stage, all the way to building the project. She also teaches Engineering Design, Architecture Design and CAD at Lawrence High School. Charlie is in her 30th year of teaching. 

    A farmers daughter from a small town in Nebraska, her parents fostered at a need to build and fix things which led to taking shop classes in high school. Her high school shop teacher encouraged her to become an Industrial Arts teacher at Kearney State College in Kearney, Nebraska. She was the only girl in her major because "in the 80's girls just didn't do those things". One of her goals is to show the female students in USD 497 that they can be in non-traditional careers.
    She coached at Lawrence High for 22 years. Fastpitch softball for 18 years, girls golf for 9 and girls basketball for 1. She retired from coaching to watch her own sons play their sports. 



    Dyan V

    Dyan Vespestad: dvespestad@neosho.edu

    Dyan is an Allied Health Instructor at Neosho County Community College. She teaches Certified Nurse Aid classes at the Lawrence College and Career Center and online classes for Neosho. She is a registered nurse and graduated from Neosho County Community College. She enjoys students and working with them in a learning environment that is educational as well as fun.   When she is not at work, she is running a 'mom taxi' for her three children.

    Amber moved to Lawrence after graduating from Wichita High School Northwest in 1994. She received her Bachelor's degree in Journalism from The University of Kansas while working several restaurant and customer service jobs throughout Lawrence. In 2005, she and her sister opened their dog grooming and retail business, Pawsh Wash and Pet Health Market. Amber loves being active in the community, volunteering, organizing events, and trying to make the world a better place. Every chance available she and her son, Cash, can be found outside, walking dogs, riding bikes, kayaking, listening to live music or attending any one of the awesome events of this great town.  
    Scott Smith

    Scott teaches video production at Free State and Lawrence College and Career Center. Prior to coming to work with Lawrence video students, Scott was a Writer/Producer in the corporate video and marketing/entertainment industries for more than 30 years. Some of Scott's past clients include Jiffy Lube, Deere & Co., Hill's International, and Sprint. If you have watched ESPN or The Golf Channel, chances are you have seen some of his work.
    In his free time, Scott is a major volunteer for the Heart of America Boy Scouts. He and his wife, Cynthia, enjoy playing golf, traveling, and exploring museums.
