Degrees and Certifications:
Ms. Amy McAnarney
Even though I was born in Mississippi, I consider myself a native Kansan. After graduating from Osage City High School, I attended the University of Kansas for two years. I received my bachelor's degree from Fort Hays State University in English and my master's degree in Educational Leadership from Emporia State University. I have taught in the Holton and Emporia school districts and have been an administrator in Gardner and Emporia. At Free State High School, I work with students with the last names beginning with A - G, the LEAP program, the Career and Technical Education Department, some of the Special Education Programs, State Assessments, Redesign, Summer School, and of course, I will have numerous other responsibilities. I am really excited to be a Free State Firebird!
This will be my 30th year in education, and the aspect I enjoy most about my job is preparing students for their future and helping them see the connections between their education and a career.
In my spare time, I enjoy swimming laps to stay fit, reading mysteries, golfing, and attending KU sporting events with my family.
My husband, Mark, is retired. Our oldest son, Matt, is an attorney in Arkansas, and our youngest son, Josh, is in graduate school at KU and works in the fiance department for the City of Topeka.
