Even though I was born in Mississippi, I consider myself a native Kansan. After graduating from Osage City High School, I attended the University of Kansas for two years. I received my bachelor's degree from Fort Hays State University in English and my master's degree in Educational Leadership from Emporia State University. I have taught in the Holton and Emporia school districts and have been an administrator in Gardner and Emporia. I was an assistant principal at Free State for seven years before becoming the head principal, and I am still as proud today to be a Firebird as I was when I began in 2015. We have an amazing staff that works hard to provide meaningful experiences for students. Likewise, we have talented students who challenge themselves and bring out the best in each other.
I have worked in education for over 30 years, and the aspect I enjoy most about my job is preparing students for their future and helping them see the connections between their education and a career.
In my spare time, I enjoy swimming laps to stay fit, reading mysteries, golfing, and attending KU sporting events.
