Built in 1955, Sunset Hill Elementary School sits on nine acres of land in central Lawrence. The school was named for the community which anchors.  Sunset Hill has received several renovations throughout the years.  The most recent and most extensive occurred on our 60th anniversary. During the largest elementary expansion in Lawrence, Sunset Hill staff and students moved across town to the old East Heights building where we remained for one academic year.  We moved back into our beautiful, renovated, 77,000 square foot building in August of 2016.

The mission of Sunset Hill is to create a safe, nurturing environment that provides each student the opportunity to become a confident, compassionate, life-long learner and productive citizen. As a community, we embrace our diversity while celebrating our unity as we prepare our children for success in a global society.

To provide rigorous learning opportunities through creativity, respect and enthusiasm that encourages all students to grow to their fullest potential.
