Communities In Schools surrounds students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life.
At Kennedy Elementary funding for the Communities in Schools site coordinator is provided by the United Way of Douglas County, USD 497, and other community and nationwide donors. The Communities In Schools Site Coordinator at Kennedy Elementary is Stacie Jackson.
The Communities In Schools Model:
By placing a site coordinator within the school, Communities in Schools connects students and families to critical community resources that meet their needs. Under the Communities in Schools model the site coordinator provides service in two different ways:
- Individual student services - when students need more one-on-one support the site coordinator partners with school staff, students, and the student's family to develop a plan to help address the students challenges.
* At Kennedy this includes working one-on-one with students to help with academics, behavior, attendance, and more. Services include, tutoring, mentoring, and other supports.
- Whole school services - working with administrators and teachers to identify areas of need within the school and bring in community resources to address these issues while providing life enrichment events.
* At Kennedy this includes providing students with basic needs, school supplies, supporting the school-wide positive behavior program, marathon club, other enrichment clubs, family events, and more.
