Ken Hile - Student Services Counselor (students Ro-Z, grades 9-12)

I am a Student Services Counselor and the military/college liaison for Free State.  This is my sixth year, and for the previous twenty-three years I've taught both high school and middle school students English and History for Topeka, Emporia, Salina, and Lawrence public schools.

When counseling students, I emphasize personal responsibility and self-advocacy skill building.  I assist students by providing guidance with personal, social, and academic choices for success while in high school and beyond.

Prior to teaching I gained life experience as a Sergeant in the United States Air Force for both the 52nd Combat Support Group-Spangdahlem and the 323rd Air Base Group-Mather, Brakeman for the AT&SF Railway, and Nuclear Station Operator for Wolf Creek Nuclear Operating Corporation.

I am a native Kansan, and I received my B.S., M.S., and Teacher License at Emporia State University.  I enjoy sailing, rowing, photography, bicycling, comedy, traveling, cooking, table tennis, art, music, reading, hiking, and anything European.

If you're a former student, classmate, or colleague, I'd love to hear from you.  Email me at
