Broken Arrow Elementary History
Built in 1968, Broken Arrow Elementary School sits on eight acres of land adjacent to South Middle School and Broken Arrow Park in south central Lawrence. The United States Bureau of Indian Affairs donated the land through the Haskell Institute (now Haskell Indian Nations University). The school's name, Broken Arrow, is considered a sign of peace and was suggested to honor the Native American background of the land.
Gift from the J. Robert Lowther family to Broken Arrow Elementary. Water color by Garcia 1982.
