• Teacher Licensure
The Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE) requires that teachers be licensed in the content area/grade level in which they are employed. The Human Resources Department is available to support your efforts to maintain the currency of your license. Please see the list of frequently asked questions below for helpful information about the licensure process.

Out-of-State License Holders and Individuals without a Teaching Degree
Tje Kansas legislation has made it possible for individuals with a degree outside of the field of education who have not gone through an accredited teaching program to obtain licensure for the purpose of teaching Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses or courses in science, math, engineering, technology or finance. Please visit the KSDE website for more information.

Out-of-State license holders who wish to be considered for employment with USD 497 should contact KSDE before applying to see what they will need to do in order to become licensed in the state of Kansas.

Human Resources refers all out-of-state licensed, STEM degree, and Career and Technical Education (CTE) credential holders to the Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE) for updated information on the requirements for obtaining a Kansas Teaching License.
