CORDLEY CLUBS
The
Cordley PTA offers some fun after school clubs for students to
participate in throughout the school year. Read below about the fun and
exciting clubs available!
CHESS CLUB
The
Chess Club will meet Mondays throughout the school year in the school's
Art Room from 3:55-5:00pm. Dues will be $5 per semester. The fees will
be used to purchase chess equipment, such as the tournament-style sets
and boards we purchased last year, to replenish paper used to photocopy,
and so on.
My
primary goal is to teach and promote an interest in the game of chess,
both for experienced and beginning chess players. Parent volunteers to
assist at the club meetings are much appreciated, as last year we had
30+ club members. Formal Cordley Chess club members will be helping and
assisting practices as well.
I
would encourage all students interested in chess to consider joining
our club. Beginning players are very welcome, and no one is required to
attend tournaments.
At
club meetings and at tournaments, good behavior and a willingness to
learn are essential. I will expect children to play chess for the full
time they are at the club meetings. Messy snacks and soda pop will not
be allowed. I hope everyone will have fun learning chess, and I look
forward to working with your children on chess this year.
I
will periodically distribute a chess newsletter with info about club
happenings and also providing info about upcoming chess tournaments for
players interested in playing scholastic chess. If you will supply me
with an e-mail address, I can e-mail you the newsletter.
Thanks,
