Hello Southwest parents and students!
I have been teaching at Southwest Middle School since the 2014-15 school year and am excited to begin another year teaching Bulldogs!
I teach the Family and Consumer Sciences curriculum (FACS), which consists of Healthy Living, a mandatory 9 week class for all 6th graders, Nutrition & Personal Wellness which is a semester long elective course for 7th graders, and Career & Life Planning, a required semester class for all 8th graders . I enjoy getting to know all of the students over the course of their time at Southwest.
I grew up in Lawrence and attended Centennial Elementary, Central Junior High, West Junior High and graduated from Lawrence High School. It's great to be a teacher in the community I have always called home. I graduated from KU with a degree in Business Administration and worked in banking in the community. Through a volunteer opportunity with the LEAP partnership I found my passion for teaching. I enjoyed my volunteer time in the classroom so much that I decided to pursue a Master's degree in Education through Rockhurst. I enjoy the relationships I build with my students and watching them grow through their learning.
Following my first year I was honored as the district Horizon Award recipient. That spring I was selected as a Horizon Award winner for the state of Kansas. Being recognized in this manner has been the highlight of my career so far.
