 Tom Hunt has served as Assistant Director of Bands at Lawrence High School since 2010.  He currently teaches Music Theory, Jazz Theory & Improvisation, Symphonic Band (2nd semester) and Jazz Ensemble II; he also assists with the LHS Marching Lions and Concert Band, in addition to beginning band classes at Liberty Memorial Central Middle School.  Tom has worked in the Lawrence Public Schools since 1997.  2020-2021 marks his 28th year in K-12 music education.

Tom was named the Kansas Music Educators Association Northeast District Outstanding Elementary Band Director in 1999-2000.  He has served KMEA as the High School Jazz Chair in both the Northwest District (1994-1996) and the Northeast District (2004-2006, 2020-2022).  Primarily a saxophonist, Tom is known for his versatility on multiple woodwinds, brass, bass guitar and wind synthesizers.  He is also active as a composer/arranger, with numerous works for jazz ensemble performed and recorded by bands in the Lawrence-Topeka area.

Tom's four children are all graduates of LHS: Allison (Class of 2012), Allan (2013), Meagan (2017) and Morgan (2020).
