Ms. Deena Amont

I have taught art at Lawrence High School since 2003 focusing on ceramics, jewelry & metals, photography, digital imaging, and industrial design.  Currently I teach Jewelry 1, Jewelry 2, Jewelry Portfolio, Ceramics 1, Ceramics 2, and Ceramics Portfolio.

I earned my Master's degree in visual arts education from the University of Kansas in 2008. I earned a Bachelor's degree in plant science and horticulture from Rutgers-The State University of New Jersey in 1987. I earned my National Board Certification in 2011.  Prior to teaching high school, I worked in the field of adult education, developing seminars and workshops for professionals in the agricultural and horticultural industries. I often teach classes for kids and adults on ceramics, hand-dyeing, and other subjects at the Lawrence Arts Center.

Besides art, I garden and keep bees.  I have a very large vegetable garden, and I love to grow heirloom tomatoes and unusual vegetables.  I also enjoy cooking, especially with homegrown foods.
