Jose Cornejo

Jose Cornejo, LMSW, I am a licensed social worker with a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Kansas and a Bachelor's degree from Emporia State University. I have worked in the mental health field since 1989 and have several years of experience in Adventure-based education and counseling. I am the School Social Worker at Community Connections at Pinckney and the JDC Day School. Outside work, I enjoy gardening, hiking, biking, fishing, and spending time with friends and family.

    School social work is a specialized area of practice within the field of social work. School social workers are licensed and trained mental health professionals who can assist with social-emotional concerns, behavior concerns, positive behavior supports, academics, classroom support, and collaborating with parents and teachers to support the needs of students. School social workers collaborate with building administrators, teachers, students, parents, guardians, support staff, and community agencies to build support systems to support student's social, emotional, behavioral, and academic needs.

    My favorite aspect of my current job is the opportunity to work with youth and dedicated educators. I enjoy that every day presents different challenges and teachable moments. Daily, I can problem-solve and assist our students with different perspectives when managing their academics or social and emotional needs.
