Mrs. Sue Willoughby
Hello. I am so excited to be the first grade Title teacher! In addition to providing math, reading, and writing support, I will participate in daily class meetings and co-teach whole group math. I look forward to working in Ms. Brown, Mrs. Korynta, and Ms. Yemm's classrooms.
This is my sixth year at Hillcrest. I was the library media specialist for a year before becoming the third grade Title teacher. I think Hillcrest is a special place, and I’m proud to be part of an amazing staff.
I received my undergraduate degree from Eastern Illinois University and hold a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from KU. I have taught first, third, and fourth grade and assisted in a Montessori classroom that included fourth-sixth grade students combined.
On a personal note, I was born and raised in central Illinois. My husband and I have been in Lawrence for 30 plus years. We have two grown sons, a daughter who will be a senior at LHS, and a big yellow lab named Mac. I am passionate about watching my girl play volleyball, reading, walking, and listening to country music that’s not too whiny and sad!
I am honored to be the 2017 Breakfast Rotary Club Teacher of the Year.
“It’s impossible, “said pride. “It’s risky,”said experience. “It’s pointless,”said reason. “Give it a try,” whispered the heart.
