Hi!
My name is Malyiah Finch, and I am pumped to join the Riverhawk family here at Woodlawn. I graduated from the University of Kansas with a B.S.E in Elementary Education.
Growing up in Lawrence, I attended Kennedy, Deerfield, West, and Free State High School. Being a part of this community has given me a deep appreciation for our town and its people. I also attended and currently teach at Dance Hues Studio in North Lawrence.
During my time at KU, I had the incredible opportunity to participate in the Professional Development School (PDS) program. It allowed me to gain hands-on experience and complete my student teaching with 1st and 5th graders in Kansas City, Kansas.
When I'm not in the classroom, I love spending time with my two adorable cats, Bubbles and Pico. They bring so much joy to my life! In my free time, I enjoy listening to podcasts, audiobooks, going on walks, and crafting, but most of all, I love watching trash reality television. It's my guilty pleasure, for sure!
My primary goals as a teacher are to create a strong classroom community and foster a positive learning environment. I believe that by working together and supporting one another, we can achieve amazing things. Additionally, I want to help develop growth mindsets, perseverance, and collaboration skills. These qualities will empower students to overcome challenges and become lifelong learners.
