Called dedicated, passionate, a lifelong learner, BMMS teacher Connie Merz was shocked during a surprise announcement where we named her our Lawrence Secondary Teacher of the Year and nominee for Kansas Teacher of the Year in the fall.

"There wasn’t a day in your class when I felt like I didn’t belong,” was just one of the numerous quotes said about Amanda Carlson, a third grade teacher at Cordley Elementary School, as she was recognized as our Elementary Teacher of the Year.

The fifth grade classes at Cordley Elementary School put on their lab coats and thinking caps and experienced several exhilarating experiments—including some conducted by experts from KU Chemistry Club—during Chemistry Day.

This past weekend, Hillcrest Elementary School graciously hosted hundreds of students, families, and friends of Lawrence Public Schools for a special celebration of their scholars, the Lawrence community, and Native American culture at the first-ever Hillcrest Inter-Tribal Club Powwow.

We are excited to announce that we are now taking applications for the new preschool classrooms at Sunflower Elementary School and Woodlawn Elementary School for the 2025-2026 school year, along with our preschool programs at Kennedy Early Childhood Center and New York Montessori.
