Core Logo
Core LogoLawrence Public Schools launched our current logo on August 12, 2019, during our fall staff convocation. Janella Williams, graphic designer with Three Clever Broads of Lawrence, Kansas, designed the logo. The district’s Executive Leadership Team affirmed the design selection through the help of a focus group, made up of representatives of students, staff, parents, the school board, and community partners. The focus group rated six logo options for design, colors, typography, and representation of Lawrence Public Schools and chose this logo design as #1 in all four categories. Our Students ShineOur logo depicts a light bulb wearing a classic graduation cap with a star-shaped person in the center of the bulb, causing it to shine. This image represents that at the heart of the district are students who are bright, creative, and full of ideas of how they will change the world. It represents the "aha" moments students have when their teachers help them gain knowledge and learn new skills. The mortarboard (AKA: the graduation cap) represents our district’s mission: “Lawrence Public Schools, USD 497, is a learning community committed to ensuring educational equity and excellence so that students of all races and backgrounds achieve at high levels and graduate prepared for success in college, careers, and life in a diverse and rapidly changing world.” |

Logo UsageThere is a horizontal and a vertical version of the logo. Both orientations may be used interchangeably depending on preference. Although, the vertical logo is typically used when there is limited horizontal space. The LPS logo needs personal space, too. The proper amount of clear space surrounding our logos is defined by the height of the star/student within our icon. This means that the clear space required scales proportionately with the size of the logo. To ensure our logos are always legible, please keep the height of any LPS logo larger than the following dimensions:

Monochromatic Logos
Monochromatic LogosIf it's difficult to see the full-color logo over a specific color or background image, you may use a monochrome logo instead. In the monochrome logos, the icon is the same color as the wordmark (either black or white). The inside of the icon is transparent so that the background shows through when using a monochrome logo. |
