SURROUNDING AREAS:
Lawrence is only a quick 25 minute drive from both the capital city of Topeka and Kansas City, which is home to many entertainment and shopping districts as well as a rich arts scene. Aside from the University of Kansas's Legendary Allen Fieldhouse, which is home to the Kansas Jayhawks, Lawrence is also a 30 minute drive from three professional sporting arenas: Chiefs football, Royals baseball and Sporting Kansas City soccer. Directly outside of Lawrence is Clinton Lake and State Park, which is great for boating, camping, hiking, or swimming.
PARKS AND RECREATION:
Lawrence was listed among the "Top 10 Cities Kindest to the Environment" in The Green Guide for its more than 54 parks, three aquatic centers, and 60 miles of biking and walking trails. Every year, the City hosts the Tour of Lawrence USA Cycling races. The League of American Bicyclists recognized Lawrence as a top "Bicycle Friendly Town."

The Lawrence community prides itself on supporting and enjoying the arts. There are two major performance theatres, which include Theatre Lawrence and the Lied Center for Performing arts in addition to the Lawrence Arts Center. Lawrence also hosts several festivals annually including the Haskell Indian Art Market, Wakarusa Music and Camping Festival, and the Lawrence Busker Festival.
