Lawrence Public Schools and the Lawrence Schools Foundation offer comprehensive staff recognition programs with support from generous Lawrence Education Achievement Partners and individual community donors. These include:

  • Site-based Team Member of the Month recognitions.
  • Elementary and Secondary $500 Horizon Awards, honoring exemplary novice educators.
  • Fall and spring $500 District Class Act and Foundation A.C.E. Awards, acknowledging outstanding classified staff. 
  • District $500 Principal of the Year Awards, applauding extraordinary leadership.
  • District $1,000 Elementary and Secondary Lawrence Teacher of the Year Awards and $2,500 Master Teacher Awards, honoring exceptional certified educators.

During the last five years, the Lawrence Schools Foundation provided grants, programs, awards, and scholarships totaling more than $8 million, including more than $100,000 in teacher and staff grants and in excess of $100,000 in teacher and staff awards. Through the generosity of community donors, the Foundation also presents more than $60,000 annually in student scholarships.

Salaries & Benefits

Lawrence Public Schools prioritizes competitive salaries and benefits and positive and supportive work environments that support the success and well-being of every staff member.  

Benefits include:

  • School board-paid medical, dental, vision employee-only coverage for those working 6 hours per day or more.

  • Part-time staff working 3.5 hours per day or more (.44 FTE) are eligible for prorated benefits.  

  • Additional voluntary dental, vision, cancer, daycare, and health savings benefits for staff and family members.

  • KPERS retirement system.

  • School board-paid 403(b) retirement savings program.

  • Voluntary 403(b) retirement option.
