Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. Lysette A. DeBoard
My name is Lysette Aimée DeBoard and this will be my 15th year teaching music to students from 1 to 89 years old! I earned my Bachelor of Music Education degree (BME) from KU in 2003 and completed my Master of Music Education degree (MME) at KU in 2010. In addition to teaching for USD 497, I am the Music Director at West Side Presbyterian Church and have been directing the choir and bell choir there for 12 years. Before coming to USD 497, I taught 5th-6th grade general music and 7th-12th grade vocal music. For three summers now, I have taugh driver's education with Go Driving Lawrence, LLC and am looking forward to teaching people of all ages how to drive safely!
The best part of my job is getting to explore the world of music with my students. Each year I introduce new styles of music and dance to my students in the hopes that they will develop a love of music from all across the globe. I also enjoy giving students the opportunity to write music of their own. I am always pleasantly surprised at the amazing variety of sounds that students include in their compositions.
When I am not at work, I spend time at home with my family and participate in various volunteer capacities. Jeremy, my husband, works for KU in their IT Department; my oldest daughter, Alexandria, recently graduated from Free State High School and is excited about starting her collegiate training; and my youngest daughter, Zoë, is 9 years old and loves being a fourth grader! I spend most of my volunteer time with Girl Scouts in the area. I have been a Girl Scout troop leader for 7 years (middle and high school aged Girl Scouts), have served as the Girl Scout Day Camp Director for the last four years.
