Driver Education

Driver education prepares students for successful careers and a lifetime of informed choices to ensure personal safety to self and others on the road.

Driver education courses teach everything from the basics of traffic laws and traffic signs to defensive driving strategies. Endorsed driving instructors will teach the importance of safety in addition to modeling good driving etiquette and providing experienced instruction. Instructors reinforce best practices - such as distraction-free driving, no texting, mandatory seat belt laws, and defensive driving habits. Many professions involve driving a vehicle to/from work or on the job.  It is the goal of driver education courses to put courteous, safety conscious and competent drivers behind the wheel.

Lawrence Public Schools offer a driver education course during the month of June.

     Driver Education summer 2020 CANCELED

We are sorry to inform you that this course has been canceled due to the public health and safety requirements surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic.  As you know, the Governor's plan for reopening Kansas is dependent on a significant decline in cases of the infection. This created uncertainty as we tried to make plans for our program.

The district will issue refunds to those who have already made payment for this summer's course. At this time, our plan is to offer Driver Education in the summer of 2021.

We have listed below local private driving schools that may be options for your student. This is for informational purposes only and does not constitute district endorsement.

Again, we are sorry to cancel our summer driver education course. We appreciate your patience and apologize for any inconvenience to your family.
