District Site Council

  • Since 1992 Kansas statutes have required every school seeking accreditation to have a building site council.  Kansas Education Systems Accreditation (KESA) regulations require every school system seeking accreditation to have a district site council that participates in the system's accreditation process.
In June 2016, the Lawrence Board of Education decided that its former Finance Advisory Council (FAC), created in 2012 to serve as an external monitoring body to the school district, the board, and superintendent, would serve in the role of District Site Council.  The Council meets monthly.  Agendas and minutes of those meetings are filed with the Clerk of the Board and posted to the district’s website.
The 2016 approved guidelines state that there will be two (2) BOE members, Assistant Superintendent, Director of Finance, and (4) four community members who may serve on the District Site Council. In addition, the Board added the appointment of (3) three district administrators from each building level: elementary, middle school, and high school; (2) two certified teachers, (2) two classified support staff members, and amended the title of the Assistant Superintendent to Interim/Deputy Superintendent.
This group meets monthly on the 3rd Thursday of the month from 4:30-5:30 pm (except when they need to reschedule due to scheduling conflicts), at the Educational Support Center, 110 McDonald Drive.
