• Lawrence Public Schools offer Title I reading and math intervention programs at each elementary school for students who may need additional support in these areas.  The intent of an intervention program is to provide the greatest amount of support in the early grades to ensure a successful start to a child’s reading and math achievement.
At the beginning of the school year, all students in Kindergarten through 5th grade are administered screening tests for both reading and math.  Based on these results, some students are identified for additional support from a teacher, para-educator, or instructional support assistant.
Interventions will be provided in the classroom and/or as a pull-out program for 15-30 minutes per day per subject.  Ongoing assessments determine the need for continued support.  Intervention teachers work as a team with parents and classroom teachers to ensure that each child achieves their highest reading and math level.
