District Site Council
-
Since 1992 Kansas statutes have required every school seeking accreditation to have a building site council. Kansas Education Systems Accreditation (KESA) regulations require every school system seeking accreditation to have a district site council that participates in the system's accreditation process. Representing the district's parents, community, and business/industry, the District Site Council provides input during every step of the growth process. The District Site Council reviews and provides input/feedback on the work of district leadership regarding goal selection, action plan development, evidence/data, and analysis of academic, social/emotional and behavioral growth.District Site Councils are made up primarily of non-employees of the district. The following groups make up the current site council:Board of Education (2)Students (2)Parents (3)Community Members/Partners (5)Business/Industry (4)Staff (3)District Administration (2)This group meets quarterly at USD 497's Educational Support Center, 110 McDonald Drive. In June 2016, the Lawrence Board of Education decided that its former Finance Advisory Council (FAC), created in 2012 to serve as an external monitoring body to the school district, the board, and superintendent, would serve in the role of District Site Council. The Council met monthly. Agendas and minutes of those meetings were filed with the Clerk of the Board and posted to the district’s website. The 2016 approved guidelines state that there will be two (2) BOE members, Assistant Superintendent, Director of Finance, and (4) four community members who may serve on the District Site Council. In addition, the Board added the appointment of (3) three district administrators from each building level: elementary, middle school, and high school; (2) two certified teachers, (2) two classified support staff members, and amended the title of the Assistant Superintendent to Interim/Deputy Superintendent. The USD 497 Site Council did not meet during the COVID-19 Pandemic from March 2020 - November 2021.In December 2021, the Lawrence Board of Education revised the guidelines to reflect membership. In 2023 the USD 497 District Site Council made recommendations to the Board of Education to change the membership to be primarily those who are non-employees of the district. This change was made and reflected in the Board of Education's Board Operations Manual.Contact: Julie Goulding, senior administrative assistant, at jgouldin@usd497.org.2022-23 Agenda/Minutes2021-22 Agenda/Minutes2019-2020 Agenda/Minutes
