What is Schoology?
Schoology is a virtual learning environment for K-12 schools that allows users to create, manage, and share academic content. Also known as a learning management system (LMS) or course management system (CMS), the cloud-based platform provides tools needed to manage a virtual classroom. Schoology helps teachers contact students, post daily reminders or updates, message students, manage assignments on a calendar, and enter new assignments anytime. Assignments can include quizzes, forms, links to websites and videos, and discussions for students to share ideas.
What is the expectation for USD 497 staff?
During the 2020-21 school year, Schoology is a resource available for all USD 497 teachers. Teachers are not required to use Schoology to share assignments and resources during this initial implementation. It is a choice for teachers whether teaching remotely, in a hybrid setting, or in a face-to-face setting. For those elementary teachers, hybrid or distance learning, who would like to access content in the Florida Virtual School (FLVS) environment, they must use the Schoology platform.
How will teachers learn to use Schoology?
Professional development for Schoology will be implemented in phases in order to build training capacity and comfort with the new platform. To read more about the professional development plan for Schoology, please visit this page: Schoology Professional Development Plan
