    Field Trips

We are planning on going on multiple field trips. Permission slips will be sent home before each educational adventure and will sometimes include opportunities to chaperone. Parents will need to provide their own transportation to and from locations, as well as pay for any admission expenses. Your child must ride the bus with his or her class.  On the day of the field trip, please send your child with a sack lunch if noted.

    Cultural Celebrations

More information will be shared about these events in future newsletters. Some of these may allow for families to come and share food, or cultural experiences. We welcome and enjoy celebrating each family and learning about their unique communities and lives. A big focus for First Grade in Social Studies is Family!

    Writing Celebrations

You can look forward to being invited to celebrate our first graders’ writing journeys throughout the year! Light refreshments will be provided.

    Morning Meetings

Your child will participate in a Morning Meeting every day to encourage relationships and social-emotional learning.  Morning Meetings begin at 8:45.  It is very important for your child to be at school on time so they can participate. Topics include growth mindset, mindfulness, The 7 Habits of Happy Kids, coping with emotions, team building, perseverance, and equity. Morning Meetings always start with a greeting which will help promote positive peer relations, so don’t be late!
