    NEW ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT

We have hired Sarah Jane Russell to be our new administrative assistant!  Sarah has been a part of various non-for profit agencies and was most recently the Director of the Lawrence Community Shelter.  Sarah has been a substitute teacher at Cordley a few times this spring (so she already knows a few students!) and she is thrilled to be a part of our community!  Sarah's first day will be Monday, April 29th.  We are excited to have Sarah be a part of our team and know she will be a wonderful addition to our front office.  Please be sure to drop by and say 'hi!' to Sarah as we welcome her to our school!

    KINDERGARTEN ORIENTATION, MAY 3RD

Welcome to Lawrence Public Schools! We are excited to partner with both you and your child as we create the
foundation for a positive and robust educational journey!

Children who reach the age of five on or before August 31, 2019, are eligible for kindergarten enrollment (Kansas
Statute 72-1107). To register your student, please visit our district website at www.usd497.org, and select the apple
icon labeled “Student Registration.” Choose the registration form for the 2019-2020 school year. If you do not have
internet access, you may come to our Enrollment Center at 110 McDonald Drive, and we will be happy to assist you.
To complete your student's registration, you will need to provide the following documents: proof of residency, a
certified copy of your child's birth certificate, your child's immunization record, and a health assessment conducted
by a physician/health care provider within one calendar year prior to school entry. You may drop off these documents
at either your child's school, or the Enrollment Center, after completion of your online registration.

During Kindergarten Orientation, your child will have the opportunity to meet kindergarten teachers, visit classrooms, and participate in fun, educational activities. Following are the specific dates and times of each scheduled orientation. We encourage families to complete their online registration prior to Kindergarten Orientation.

Please contact our office at 785-832-5640 for details about Kindergarten Registration and Orientation. We want both you and your child to have a successful launch into Lawrence Public Schools!

  • Safe Routes to School

This Safe Routes to Schools map was made by the City of Lawrence, the Lawrence-Douglas County Health Department, and Lawrence Public Schools as part of a community-wide effort to show students and parents the safest route to their neighborhood school. We encourage you and your student to use this map for International Walk to School Day on October 7th, 2015—and every day!—and then provide feedback on street conditions, traffic conditions, and the usability of your Safe Route on the link attached.  Additional questions can be sent to mshowalter@ldchealth.org ,  dljohnso@usd497.org, or rmay@usd497.org
