Welcome to AVID at Billy Mills Middle School.  I have been teaching since 1996 and have taught at Billy Mills (formerly South) since 1997.  I was born in Minnesota  and moved to Newton, KS in 1983.  I graduated from Kansas State University in 1996 and earned my Masters in Education from the University of Kansas in 2000.  Additionally, I have 60 continuing education credits from Baker University. 

 

In AVID, students will learn organizational skills such as focused note taking, WICOR (writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization and writing), goal setting, cooperative learning strategies, career surveys and personal finance.  The mission of AVID is to help students to become college and career ready in this global society.  AVID is offered to 7th and 8th graders.  Students must apply in the spring in order to be considered for the program.
