Hillcrest Staff 2016-Present

My name is Laurie Matney and I am so grateful and excited to be sharing my love of music with Hillcrest Elementary.  My original instrument is the flute and now I dabble at many other instruments.

Missouri is where I hail from originally.  I graduated from University of North Texas with my Bachelor's degree in Music Education and later completed my Master's degree in Music Education at Florida State University.  I draw from both Kodaly and Orff approaches in my classroom when teaching the students musical concepts.

I've been teaching music since 2006 and have enjoyed each year, learning more and more every time.

I enjoy being with my husband Bill and we are generally homebodies.  He is a music therapy professor at KU.  We love eating out, watching movies, and hanging with our cats.  I also love rock climbing, walks, naps and yoga.
