Bullying and Hazing

    Bullying is any act that recklessly or intentionally endangers the mental health, physical health or safety of a student or that substantially interferes with a student’s educational benefits, and that takes place on or immediately adjacent to district grounds, at any district-sponsored activity, on district-provided transportation or at any district bus stop.

    Cyberbullying means threats or harassment over Internet through web pages, email, instant messaging, text messaging, or by other electronic means.

    Hazing is any act that recklessly or intentionally endangers the mental health, physical health or safety of a student for the propose of initiation or as a condition or precondition of attaining membership in, or affiliation with, any district-sponsored activity or grade level attainment.

Discrimination and Harassment

    In accordance with Board of Education Policy JGEC, the Lawrence Public School district is committed to providing a positive and productive learning and working environment, free from discrimination and harassment.  
     
    Discrimination is conduct which affords a student different treatment, solely on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, disability, sex, sexual orientation or gender identity in a manner which interferes with or limits the ability of the student to participate in or benefit from the services, activities or programs of the school. 
     Harassment is conduct which solely on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, disability, sex, sexual orientation or gender identity:
    • affords a student different treatment in a manner which interferes with or limits the ability of the student to participate in or benefit from the services, activities or programs of the school; or
    • subjects a student to treatment which is sufficiently severe, pervasive or persistent so as to have the purpose or effect of creating a hostile environment or of interfering with a student's performance or ability to participate in or benefit from the services, activities or programs of the school.

School News

  • LHS Open House is Monday, August 21, from 6:45 pm to 9:00 pm.  Follow your student's schedule (in 15 minute intervals) and visit classroom teachers.  "Zero hour" starts at 6:45 pm!

  • attendance Attendance/Appointment and Early Pickup

    Parents/Guardians should call the attendance office a minimum of two (2) hours in advance of a student needing to be dismissed early from class.

    Students are required to have a pass from the attendance office to be released during class and should check out through attendance located in the main office.

    Students may not check themselves out. The attendance line is 785-330-4968. Leave a message if you are connected to voicemail, its checked consistently throughout the day.

    • Sunday, August 13th - Freshmen Parent Meeting @ 6pm - Auditorium
    • Monday, August 14th - First Day of Fall Sports Tryouts/Practices
    • Wednesday, August 16th - Freshman Orientation 8am-12pm - Main Gym
    • Wednesday, August 16th - New to LHS Soph., Junior and Seniors Orientation 1:30pm-3:30 - Main Gym
    • Thursday, August 17th - First Day of School 8:05am-3:10pm unless have a zero hour at 7:05
    • Monday, August 21st - Open House 6:45pm-9pm
    • Tuesday, August 22nd - Last day to join Girls Tennis
    • Wednesday, August 23rd - Fall Sports Jamboree - 4:00pm - 9:00pm
    • Monday, September 4th - NO SCHOOL
